Future generations risk losing Nyero Rock, a tourist destination in Ngora District, to vandalism and adverse weather conditions that have ruined the archeological paintings. The three-tiered rock shelter, famous for its ancient paintings on its inner surfaces, is believed to date as far back as the Iron Age. The RDB has recognized local communities neighboring Volcanoes National Park for promoting mountain gorilla tourism. Revenues generated from the tourism sector have this year increased by 11 percent compared to the same period (January-June) last year. Information from Rwanda Development Board (RDB) indicates that so far, US$128.3m has been raised compared to us$115.6m generated in the same period last year. The newly Uganda Wildlife Authority card system has reportedly been a huge success making the authority save lots of money. Recently UWA decided to gradually change from  issuing paper entry permits and gorilla permits to plastic cards which act like ATM cards. The cards are loaded with a certain amount of money which the visitor can spend on any activity in the parks. Uganda has completed habituation of 2 mountain gorillas groups in Bwindi for gorilla trekking and research in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The gorilla groups, named Bushaho and Bikingi, are named for their home ranges and contain some individuals from previously habituated groups. To track the gorillas you must have a pre-booked gorilla tracking permit (each costs US$600) . Since the gorilla parks are located far away from the airport you arrive from you will need transport (4×4 advisable) to reach the park. The drive from Kampala/ Entebbe to Bwindi takes about 9 hours.
