The aim of this gorilla habituation experience tour is that you spend 4 hours with the mountain gorillas in Bwindi (more than the standard 1 hour), and also as much time as you want with the golden monkeys. This is the ideal safari to Africa for travellers who would love a deeper than ordinary experience with the rare mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.
We have made special arrangements with the national park authorities so that you have 2-5 times more the traditional amount of time with the rare and endangered mountain gorillas guided by scientific researchers and contributing to their research, golden monkeys and other primates.

Detailed Itinerary for Bwindi gorilla habituation experience tour and Mgahinga Golden monkeys habituation - 4 days
Day 1: Meet in Entebbe or Kampala (at your hotel), Drive to Bwindi National Park ( daily flights available)
Meet and greet with our local guide in Kampala/ Entebbe at 07:00hrs before starting on your drive heading to southwestern Uganda. En route, there is a local community popular for making local drums and crafts and a fruit market. Stopover, admire, and buy yourself souvenirs. Proceed to the Equator line taken as one beautiful scenery in Africa - the pathway of the sun and take photographs. Pass by mountains, tropical rainforest, and bamboo forest during the journey.
While most of today's forests are no more than 12,000 years old, Bwindi's vegetation has been weaving itself into tangles for over 25,000 years, in the process accumulating a lengthy species list.
This includes 310 species of butterflies, 51 reptiles, 200 trees, 88 moths, and an exceptional 120 species of mammals including 10 primates. The latter includes chimpanzees, L'Hoest's, red-tailed and blue monkeys, black and white colobus, baboons, and Bwindi's most famous resident, the mountain gorilla.
Bwindi is a prime destination for birdwatchers. Its 350 species include seven which are IUCN red data listed and 90% of all Albertine rift endemics – species which are difficult or impossible to see in any other part of East Africa.
You can also fly into Kigali Rwanda and 4 hours later be in the Rushaga Region of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You have the choice of budget, moderate, and upmarket lodging and can stay either in Rushaga or the scenic Nkuringo area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Habituation Experience Tour in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Our uniquely exclusive researcher-led gorilla habituation experience tour - 4-hour permit.
We have an early morning entry into the mountain gorilla’s sanctuary. Our intimate gorilla habituation experience allows you to accompany the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s Bwindi gorilla habituation team for the entire day, allowing you to have a minimum of 4 hours in the presence of a mountain gorilla family.
Since regular permits only allow 1 hour, this is 4 times the amount of time spent up close with gorillas – more than any other safari operator! During this time you will be able to experience the gorilla family as they wake up, hunt, patrol, play, fight, copulate, and breastfeed until they build their nests at bedtime.
The thrill of spending time with and observing these gentle giants is a rare and moving adventure that will leave you with long-lasting memories. Spending more time with them than the norm means you are assured of the best possible experience, with 4 full hours for better photography, researcher access for more questions, and enough time to experience more intimate and unusual behaviors. The gorillas are shy and peaceful animals and it is an unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as they interact with each other.
The walking can sometimes be tough and long, but when you catch a glimpse of the magnificent silverback, any discomforts will be quickly forgotten. Once the gorillas are sighted, you will be guided to within 6 meters of the gorillas, and be able to sit all around them while gazing into their big round eyes as the researchers note their health, behavior, and other characteristics.
It is only in Uganda that you can be with a Mountain Gorilla Family for 4 hours on a Gorilla Habituation Experience along with researchers in Bwindi’s Impenetrable Forest – this amazing experience – to be with the Bikingi Mountain Gorilla Family as it is being habituated is a one of a kind experience in Africa.
There are presently two family groups being habituated, meaning that they becoming used to human contact and will not run away from visitors trekking them.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Habituation Experience in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
After an early breakfast, set off for the national park for the golden monkey habituation experience which allows you up to 4 hours with the monkeys.
The monkeys are primarily to be found in the bamboo forest that skirts the lower slopes of the volcanoes. The monkeys are very active in the canopy of the bamboo where your guides mimic their calls to follow the group.
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park –the small park with many activities also is the only park in Africa that offers the Golden Monkey Habituation Experience. You cannot do this Activity in Rwanda or the Democratic Republic of Congo, but only in the Pearl of Africa-Uganda.

Mgahinga National Park is a small park with many activities and golden monkey tracking has been one of them for years. Golden Monkeys are not as well-known as
are the Mountain Gorillas or Chimpanzees of Uganda, however, they are all endangered species – there are up to 4000 Golden Monkeys living in the shadows of the Virunga Volcanoes – no accurate census has been taken but it is known that they are not reproducing at a rate that will mean an increase in the population of Golden Monkeys.
They live in the Bamboo Forest zones of the Virunga Volcanoes and you do have to be in reasonable shape to hike up to their habitat which is a most rewarding experience. One of the families has been habituated which means that they are now used to human beings without scurrying off into the forest when humans approach.
You can spend four hours in the morning or four hours in the afternoon where you will be guided to the bamboo forest by a guide, one thing of note is that the size of your Golden Monkey Habituation group will only be six in number – this is smaller than the size of visitors to the
Gorilla Groups that have been habituated where 8 can visit one gorilla group each day.
It is best to dress right for this Golden Monkey habituation Experience, light-hiking boots, jeans, a long-sleeved shirt, hat, rain jacket, daypack, 1 liter of water, something to eat, and of course your camera and binoculars.
This Golden Monkey experience can be combined with other activities at Mgahinga Gorilla Park such as gorilla tracking, volcano climbing, nature walks, and of course the interactive Batwa Walk with the original people of the forest.

Early breakfast before embarking on our return to Kampala, driving down the grassed and terraced escarpments of southwestern Uganda while taking in the breathtaking sights of the hills of the region dubbed ‘the little Switzerland of Africa’.
Not to miss as we traverse Mbarara are the impressing longhorn Ankole cattle. A remarkable highlight of this journey is the Equator line and surely you will cross it as we have a brief stop here. We will be in Kampala in the evening before for your flight back home.
